Our debut in the 2023 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship was a brilliant success, leaving Misano with 3 podiums in The Promoters Cup and sitting 9th place in the
Championship standings.
All the teams welcomed us and the gathering of show trucks was impressive in the famous Misano World Circuit. The weekend started with some concern after Italy saw major floods which caused mass devastation and cancellation of many other sports including the Formula 1, thankfully we were able to race.
Saturday was a very wet day of racing making it difficult for the team on what is a new track to our driver John Newell, we moved up to 8th place after qualifying 12th, John and the team had a few issues to address to gain more traction but these were rectified resulting in a 7th place finish in race 2 and 2nd place in the Promoters Cup.
On Sunday we saw huge crowds, sunshine and a fantastic brass band who really set the atmosphere. John qualified in 9th position allowing us to race in the Superpole and hold onto 9th place amongst the best drivers in the world. Race 3 resulted in another 9th place of the 12 trucks and a further 3rd place podium. The final race was a game changer and our best placing overall, John held his nerve as drivers made mistakes, starting in 9th position and pushing through to finish 6th place and 3rd place in the Promoters Cup again.
The whole team are very proud of our performance, our social media channels have had a huge spike in following and interactions, fans are entering competitions, sending in messages of congratulations and we have been approached on numerous occasions over the weekend by the FIA to acknowledge our professionalism and the quality build of our truck. 2023 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship means that we are surrounded by the most experienced drivers in the world on circuits we have never driven but NWT Motorsport did not look out of place, John drove with the usual grit and determination and with a few tweaks to the truck we think there is definitely a lot more in the tank.
